It's all about the handwriting (usually cursive), the fade and the spillage.

Lime Jello - Cottage Cheese & Pineapple

When I decide to cook my way through these recipe boxes, it takes quite a bit of preparation. I have to think about basic things like "Will anybody eat this?  What do I need to have on hand or go to the store for?"  But first, I have to find recipes where I can decipher what the card says.  Sometimes, this isn't easy to do.  There is the handwriting factor - cursive most times, the "fade" factor, and the "spillage" factor.

As I was preparing to jump back in to this, I think I found a perfect example. This card comes complete with all kinds of  "considerations".  It references "Helen" (surely a friend and perhaps a contributor to the recipe, or maybe she has a tie to the event where this will be served.)  Next - there is a reference to crackers - pretty sure, they don't go with this dish - but why oh why are they on this recipe card? Then, there is the recipe itself.  It takes some work to sort through it - you'll see.  I'll share the ingredients, just in case you want to take a trip back in time.  All I know is on this one, I am not making it, let alone eating it.  For the record though, I have - eaten it.  Where?  At my Grandma's of course! (and we didn't have crackers with it)  When you see what this recipe card looks like, you'll come to the same conclusion as I did - she made this MORE than once.

Lime Jello - Cottage Cheese Pineapple (note: you'll figure out the ingredients as we go)

Drain juice from #2 can crushed pineapple (something about 2 C pineapple)

Add water to juice to make 2 cups juice.

Bring to boil juice & water and add 2 pkgs lime jello

Add 1 C cold water and let cool.

Whip 1 C cream - add cream, 1/2 C miracle whip dressing - 2 C cottage cheese and the 2 Cups pineapple to lime jello. Mix &  put in 9x13 pan.

On this recipe card, my Grandma notes the following (napkins & take care of tea and/or coffee)  ice cubes. Like I said - considerations.

This is one of those recipes that really really reminds me of my Grandma.  💕
